Why the March 1st Election for Selectman Is Important

We all know that a great community like Lexington doesn’t just happen.

We have made choices over the years to assure that Lexington remains a healthy, vibrant community that respects its historic roots and meets the contemporary and diverse needs of its residents. Because of these choices, we have:
  • Outstanding schools
  • Excellent recreation and fitness facilities
  • Highly competent police, fire, and public works staffs
  • Invaluable open, natural spaces
  • A heavily used, much-admired public library
  • Many cultural assets to be proud of

We know that a few bad decisions could put these town jewels at risk, rapidly eroding the very things we cherish most about Lexington. We, the citizens, depend on the Board of Selectmen to make the critical priority choices and funding decisions on the services we so cherish.

Why I'm Running for Re-Election

I am running for re-election because my experience and collaborative skills make me particularly qualified to address our issues in these harsh economic times. I bring to the Board of Selectmen:
  • Balance - the ability and desire to bring people together, to consider disparate views and buld a consensus
  • A deep financial knowledge gained during my 15 years working on the Appropriation and Capital Expenditures Committees
  • A proven ability to make informed, analytical choices about how to use scarce resources
  • An understanding of the varied needs of the community coupled with experience in how to make it happen

I look forward to hearing from you and answering your questions about me, my management style, and my positions.

Very truly yours,
George Burnell
